Meet Elissa Hammel
Elissa Hammel is the wife of 33-year-old professional baseball pitcher, Jason Aaron Hammel. Her hubby who currently plays for the Chicago Cubs will start Game 4 of the NLDS on Tuesday against the Cardinals, John Lackey.
According to ESPN, Hammel looked strong in his final outing of the regular season, tossing five shutout innings with five strikeouts and no walks to end the year with a 3.74 ERA.
Elissa Hammel met her hubby when he was a Minor Leaguer and she was in college. They’ve had to relocate after three trades — two coming in-season — and four teams. Last May, Hammel gushed about his wife for a mother’s day edition, saying: “She’s the mother of my children and we’ve shared this whole journey together, and I wouldn’t have picked anybody else to do it with me.” “I honestly think there’s not enough Mother’s Days in the year,” “There should be a day every week, especially in baseball life.”
Elissa Hammel and Jason’s paths first cross in St. Petersburg in 2006, when he was with the Rays and she was a student at Eckerd College. It didn’t take long for the two to connect, and before he left to play for Durham that year, Jason had the “talk” about what to expect. He wouldn’t be around much because of the time commitment and travel involved with baseball. She’d have to trust him.
The talk was as honest as you can get and the two were eventually married in 2009. The couple have two children together; Elissa Hammel gave birth to first child, Son Beckett on Sept. 2, 2011. They welcomed second child, daughter Colby in 2014.
Elissa Hammel has bee pretty active in her role of a baseball wife, she joined the MLB blog as a guest commentator on the MLB Network to talk about making pork chops for Jason back in the day. The family is completed by Sadie, a 40lb Boston Terrier.
Talking about their most recent ‘new home’ Elissa Hammel said about Chicago “We fell in love with the energy of the city and how friendly everyone we met has been.”
