Tommy DeVito, a quarterback currently signed by the New York Giants, who previously played college football at Syracuse from 2017 to 2021 and with the Illinois Fighting Illini Football team at the University of Illinois under head coach Bret Bielema in 2022.

Tommy DeVito’s gorgeous mom, was born Alexandra Scheuerer in February 1970, in Livingstone, New Jersey. Mrs. DeVito, also known as Lexi DeVito, attended Livingston High School.
Alexandra as well as her husband Thomas Tom DeVito works in their plumbing business, DeVito Plumbing and Heating. In addition to Tommy DeVito, Alexandra and Tom have one more son, Max DeVito.

Syracuse
During his initial year at Syracuse, DeVito didn’t play as he was redshirted. He then served primarily as the substitute for the first-string quarterback, Eric Dungey, during his redshirt freshman year. He appeared in eight games as a replacement, completing 44 out of 87 passes for a total of 525 yards and four touchdowns.
His first significant playtime was against Florida State on September 15, 2018, where he stepped in for an injured Dungey. In that game, he completed 11 of 16 passes for 144 yards and a touchdown and also scored a touchdown himself, leading Syracuse to a 30-7 victory. DeVito again filled in for Dungey due to injury on October 10 against North Carolina, where he led Syracuse to a 40-37 win in double overtime.
As a redshirt sophomore, DeVito threw for 2,360 yards and 19 touchdowns and ran for 122 yards and two touchdowns. He achieved a career-best performance by throwing for 330 yards, three touchdowns, and an interception in a game against Maryland, despite a 63-20 loss.
In 2020, DeVito completed 48 out of 96 pass attempts, throwing for 593 yards, and four touchdowns in the first four games of the season. Unfortunately, he suffered a leg injury against Duke, which ended his season prematurely.
DeVito started the 2021 season as the first-string quarterback for Syracuse but was later replaced by Garrett Shrader, a transfer player. After six weeks into the season, DeVito entered the NCAA transfer portal.
Illinois
The quarterback was recognized with an All-Big Ten honorable mention by the media and won the Coaches Appreciation Award for offense in Illinois. He was the starting quarterback in all 13 games, completing 279 of 369 passes for a total of 2,650 yards and 15 touchdowns throughout the season. He set an Illinois record with a 69.6% completion rate and ranked fourth nationwide, leading the Big Ten in the same category. His passing yards positioned him seventh in the Big Ten. He threw 15 touchdown passes with only four interceptions.
His pass efficiency rating of 141.22 was the second-highest in Illinois history and the sixth-highest in the Big Ten. He rushed for six touchdowns during the season and led Illinois in total offense with 2,685 yards, which placed him ninth in the Big Ten.
He hit career bests in completions (257), passing yards (2,650), completion percentage (69.6%), pass efficiency (141.22), and rushing touchdowns (6). According to PFF, he was ranked as the 23rd best quarterback nationwide and second in the Big Ten (85.2), trailing only C.J. Stroud. He was also ranked 21st in the nation for passing and sixth for fumble/ball security among quarterbacks (74.8).
In a game against Nebraska on 10/29/22, he completed 20 out of 22 passes for 179 yards and two touchdowns, setting records for both the Illinois program and Nebraska’s Memorial Stadium with a completion rate of 90.9%. He achieved a career-high three rushing touchdowns at Wisconsin on 10/1/22, tying the Illini record for a quarterback. He also threw for a career-high 332 passing yards against Chattanooga on 9/22/22. He was listed on the Golden Arm watch list.
Tommy DeVito NFL Career
- DeVito was picked up by the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent on April 29, 2023, following the end of the 2023 NFL Draft.
- The Giants released DeVito on August 29, 2023, only to bring him back onto their practice squad.
- In a game against the New York Jets on October 29, 2023, during Week 8, DeVito made his first appearance in the NFL. He was called upon due to an injury to Tyrod Taylor, the backup quarterback. Despite being sacked twice and completing only two out of seven passes, he scored the only touchdown for the Giants with a six-yard run.
- Two days later, on October 31, DeVito was promoted to the Giants’ active roster.
- When Daniel Jones was injured during the Week 9 game against the Las Vegas Raiders, DeVito stepped in. He managed to throw for 175 yards and his first NFL passing touchdown, but also threw two interceptions.
- In the Week 10 game against the Dallas Cowboys, DeVito was named the starting quarterback. He threw for 86 yards and scored two touchdowns, but also threw an interception. The Giants lost the game 49-17.
- DeVito continued as the Giants’ starting quarterback in their Week 11 game against the Washington Commanders. He completed 18 of 26 passes for a total of 246 yards and three touchdowns. He was sacked nine times, but the Giants still won the game 31-19. This made DeVito the first quarterback since 1992 to win a game in which he was sacked nine or more times.
- DeVito started again the following week in the Giants’ 10-7 victory over the New England Patriots. He completed 17 of 25 pass attempts for 191 yards and threw a touchdown pass.
