Cheri Shepard
Cheri Shepard is the lovely, supportive and proud mother of NFL rookie, Sterling Shepard. Her 23-year-old son currently plays for the New York Giants. Keep reading to know Cheri Shepard’s biography.
Cheri’s only son was drafted 40th overall by the Giants in the 2nd round of the 2016 NFL Draft. In May he signed his rookie contract with the team.
Cheri Clay was born and raised in Oklahoma City. The daughter of James and Edna Clay, went to Northeast High School. Made the honor roll. Was selected Miss Northeast by her classmates.
As a supportive athlete mom, Cheri Shepard hardly ever missed a game while her son attended Oklahoma University. She proudly wore one of her son’s No. 3 jerseys to cheer for the then, Sooners’ leading receiver.
Cheri and her late husband Derrick went on to have three children, Sterling’s two sisters: Ashleigh and Shelby. Cheri’s eldest, Ashleigh, also attended OU. 26-year-old Ashleigh currently works at American Energy Partners in Oklahoma City.
The mom of three certainly has close ties to OU. She happens to have not one but two degrees from Oklahoma. Her husband, Derrick, a standout receiver on Oklahoma’s 1985 national championship team, died of a heart attack in 1999 when Sterling was only 6. Derrick had just recently landed his first full-time assistant coaching job, at Wyoming, and was playing racquetball when he died.
The mom of three revealed to ESPN, losing her husband so abruptly rocked the family. She raised her children with the help of her parents. As for young Sterling, he was welcomed with open arms by the Oklahoma program –which his father was part of. Cheri would routinely drop off Sterling at the OU football complex, which became his own little playground.
According to her LinkedIn, Cheri holds a BBA in finance and a MPA from the University of Oklahoma. She worked as a Human Resources Manager at Hitachi Computer Products for 15 years.
She’s also worked as a compensation manager at Chesapeake Energy. She is currently, the human resources director for Ascent Resources in Oklahoma City.
