Gregg Burke
Gregg Burke is the husband of former college basketball player turned Television sports reporter and a color analyst, Doris Burke.
His wife is known in the world for her work with ESPN college basketball, NBA on ESPN and NBA on ABC games. She is the first woman to be a television analyst for a men’s Big East basketball game.
Doris Burke was born as Doris Sable in West Islip, New York. Doris was raised in the lower middle class family as the youngest of eight children.
Doris began playing basketball since she was in her second grade. She joined Manasquan High School and there she played as a point guard. Following her high school graduation, she joined Providence College –where she became the school’s all-time leader in assists. For this great contribution, she was introduced at the Providence College Hall of Fame.
Following her college success, she began her professional career as a broadcast journalist in radio back in 1990. Few years later she joined ESPN and ABC. She was the first female analyst to call a New York Knicks game on radio and television when she did so in 2000.
For her work on TV she has been nominated in a number of prestigious awards and she has also won several of them. In 2003, she was awarded with the USA Today a Rudy Award as the Best New Face in Sports Television.
Most recently in 2012, she was honored with the Silver Anniversary Award due to her myriad athletic and professional accomplishments..
As for hubby, Gregg Burke, he is also a TV personality. Doris got married to Gregg Burke in 1989 following years of dating each other. According to online info, Gregg Burke is the reason why she got into TV. He proposed to her on Valentine’s Day.
Gregg was the sports instruction news director for women players at Province College. According to him, she use play belligerently like a guy.
Gregg Burke is the father of the couple’s two children. They welcomed their first child, daughter Sarah in 1993 and became parents for the second time to son, Mathew in 1995.
Unfortunately, the couple is currently divorced. Despite her status as a media person she keeps most of her life private, and no reason for divorce is known or has been disclosed.
Accoridng to his LinkedIn, he is currently the Deputy Director of Athletics and Head Golf Coach at the University of Rhode Island, position he has held for the past 11-years.
Gregg Burke studied Political Science at College of the Holy Cross and also attended Providence College. He currently resides in Rhode Island.
