Zach Edey Mother
Meet Mrs. Julia Edey! She is the beautiful and loving mother of Canadian college basketball player Zach Edey, the outstanding 7’4″ center with the Purdue Boilermakers at Purdue University under head coach Matt Painter. Edey, a senior at Purdue, is also on the roster of the Canadian National Basketball team, coached by Jordi Fernandez.
Julia Edey
Zach Edey mother Julia Edey who stands at 6’3 was born in Toronto, grew up in a bustling household where family-owned Chinese takeout and academic success were paramount. From the age of 12, she pitched in at the restaurant on weekends alongside her father and grandfather, squeezing in basketball when school allowed.
Standing at 5-foot-9 by ninth grade, Julia caught the eye of high school coaches who saw potential in her game. At 17, she auditioned for Canada’s junior national team, competing against older players nationwide.
Yet, uncertainties loomed. Affording a trip to Halifax for the team’s selection camp seemed daunting, and there was the weight of familial expectations. Despite her passion for basketball, her parents viewed it as a mere hobby. They never attended her games, preoccupied with raising their large family.
In the face of these challenges and the limited opportunities in women’s basketball at the time, Julia’s hoop dreams faded. She pursued mechanical engineering, built a successful career, married, and became a mother to two sons.
Then, unexpectedly, Julia’s love for basketball reignited 21 years later, a revival sparked by the arrival of her first child.
