Sam Howell was born on September 16, 2000, in the small town of Waynesville, North Carolina. He spent his formative years in Union County, North Carolina, under the loving care of his parents, Amy and Duke Howell. His family also includes his siblings Anne Marie and Will Howell, who share their parents’ pride and joy in Sam’s accomplishments.
Duke Howell’s father Bruce Howell was an American soldier who met his wife Judy while stationed in Korea after the Korean War. Judy born Han Pun in South Korea, on July 20, 1945, to Myong Sok Park and Kum Ok Yan. In addition to Duke Howell, Judy and Bruce Howell had one daughter, Betty.
Duke Howell (b. Dec. 1972) is the football head coach at Cuthberston High School, before that he spent four years as the offensive coordinator at Sun Valley.
Sam Howell’s mom Amy Howell was born Amy Kolomechuk in August 1974. Her other son Will Howell graduated in 2017 from Sun Valley High School and in 2021 from Appalachian State.

Sam Howell is a highly regarded four-star recruit, ranked as the second-best player in North Carolina, the third-best pro-style quarterback nationwide, and the 87th best player overall according to the 247Sports Composite. He was a standout at the Elite 11 Opening finals and represented his state in the 2018 Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas.
Howell’s high school career stats are impressive, with a total of 17,036 yards, setting the state record. He ranks second in state history for career passing yards, with 13,415 yards and 145 touchdowns. He also demonstrated his versatility by rushing for 3,621 yards and 60 scores.
In recognition of his outstanding performance, he was named the 2018 North Carolina Gatorade Player of the Year, North Carolina Offensive Player of the Year by several publications, and earned first-team all-state and All-Observer honors.
Throughout his high school career, Howell led Sun Valley under head coach Tad Baucom, to multiple playoff berths and impressive records each season. As a senior, he passed for 3,240 yards and 36 touchdowns while rushing for 1,392 yards and 17 scores. His junior year saw similar success, with 3,372 passing yards and 36 touchdowns, along with 1,594 rushing yards and 24 scores.

Sam Howell joined the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in January 2019, making history as the first true freshman to secure the starting quarterback position for the Tar Heels. His debut was marked by a triumphant 24-20 win over South Carolina, where he threw for 245 yards and two touchdowns. A remarkable performance against NC State saw him throwing for 401 yards and three touchdowns, leading to a 41–10 victory.
Howell’s first year was nothing short of spectacular. He completed 259 of 422 passes for 3,641 yards with 38 touchdowns, setting an FBS record for a freshman. His impressive yardage and touchdown totals led the conference, earning him ACC Rookie of the Year and third-team All-ACC honors. His prowess continued to shine in the 2019 Military Bowl, where he was named MVP after throwing three touchdowns and a touchdown catch in a 55–13 win over Temple.
Howell’s sophomore season started with high expectations, as he was included on watchlists for the Maxwell, Manning, and O’Brien awards. His performances continued to impress, including a school-record 550 yards and six touchdowns against Wake Forest, and three touchdowns in the 2021 Orange Bowl. He led the Tar Heels to an 8-4 record and a final ranking of 18 in the AP Poll, marking his most successful season as the starting quarterback.
In his junior year, Howell continued to earn recognition as one of the nation’s top quarterbacks. His game against Georgia State saw him throw for 352 yards and three touchdowns, while also rushing for 104 yards and two touchdowns. Against Virginia, he joined Lamar Jackson as the second Power 5 quarterback to post back-to-back games of over 300 passing and 100 rushing yards since 2004.
Despite suffering a shoulder injury during overtime against Pittsburgh, he returned in a match against NC State, throwing for 147 yards, one touchdown, and an interception, while also scoring two rushing touchdowns. Howell ended his junior season with 3,056 throwing yards, 24 touchdowns, and 828 rushing yards with 11 touchdowns.
In December 2021, Howell graduated and announced his decision to enter the 2022 NFL Draft, forgoing his remaining college eligibility. He left a remarkable legacy at UNC, holding school records with 92 touchdown passes and 10,283 yards. Remarkably, he threw at least one touchdown pass in every college game he played.

- In the final game of the 2022 season, after the team was out of playoff contention, Howell was given the starting quarterback position. He completed 11 out of 19 passes for a total of 169 yards, and scored both a passing and rushing touchdown, leading the team to a 26-6 upset victory over the Dallas Cowboys.

Pretty Chloe Barbu born Chloe Alexis Barbu in March 2001, is one of the children born to Daniel and Martha Ynestroza Barbu, of Waxhaw, North Carolina. Chloe’s siblings are Marta, Natalie and brother Lucas.
Chloe’s dad, Daniel Barbu holds a degree in industrial engineering from Florida International University. He is the owner of Stylecraft Ventures.
Her sister, Marta Barbu, holds a nursing degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and a nursing master’s from Duke; Marta is a nurse at CVS Minute Clinic and at Dynamic Health.
Natalie Barbu holds a degree in industrial engineering from North Carolina State University and is the co-founder of Rella along with Connor Boyce, the app that assists content creators with their finances, followers, and feeds.
Lucas Barbu is pursuing a degree in industrial engineering at North Carolina State University; he is a construction site manager at Stylecraft Homes. Before that, Lucas was a construction worker at Boggs Coinstracting.
Chloe Barbu graduated in 2019 from Marvin Ridge High School and in 2023 received her degree in business administration and a minor in entrepreneurship from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Chloe, like her brother Lucas, is involved in her family’s business Stylecraft Homes, as an assistant project manager; in addition to that, Chloe Barbu is a content creator at YouTube and the co-owner and co-founder at Shop Barbu.
As a co-founder and co-owner of an online women’s clothing store, I selected product items to be carried online and establish prices of clothing goods, as well as maintained the website design, product photos, and email campaigns. This included managing the Shop Barbu social media pages with 2000+ followers by daily uploading, posting on Instagram and Facebook, and engaging with the customers through the use of social media while developing and testing marketing strategies weekly to drive sales and increase conversions.
