Meet Abigail Husty, she is the young woman who was physically assaulted by college football player De’Andre Johnson. The June 24th incident was caught on tape and following the release of the video Johnson was suspended and ultimately kicked off the team.
Johnson enrolled at FSU in January after graduating early from First Coast High School in Jacksonville, Florida. His dismissal from the Seminoles came on the same day as the release of video by the State’s Attorney’s Office. The 19-year-old was Florida’s “Mr. Football” as a high school senior in 2014 but has now fell form grace.
Reports say Husty and De’Andre were at a Yianni’s nightclub and a security camera caught Johnson and 21-year-old Abigail Husty, an FSU coed, jostling for prime position at a crowded bar. They were both trying to order drinks when the confrontation escalated. The blonde raised a fist and shouted at Johnson, who first grabbed her fist and held it. She took a swing at him with her free hand, provoking Johnson to punch her face with his free hand.
Court documents, say Abby suffered bruising under her left eye, swelling to the left cheek and upper lip, and a small cut near the bridge of her nose.
Many think Johnson’s career is done before it even started but recent reports say he is asking for second chance, saying he should’ve had walked away instead of smacking Husty right in the face.
Johnson –who was charged with battery –left the bar following the incident while Abby stayed.
Johnson’s lawyer claims that Husty’s shouts were “racial epithets” and that she kneed his client “in the groin area.” He pleaded not guilty on July 2 to misdemeanor battery charges stemming from the incident and will head to court on July 22 for a case management conference, according to ESPN.
Not much more is known about Husty who has declined comments to media outlets but the message is pretty clear on her Twitter account.
