Anthony and Wanda Hernandez
Meet Anthony and Wanda Hernandez, these proud parents are the dad and mom of Olympic gymnast Laurie Hernandez. She is the young artistic gymnast and member of the U.S Women’s gymnastics for the Rio Olympics in Brazil.
Puerto Rican descent Anthony and his wife Wanda Hernandez, have three amazing children together. Jelysa, Marcus and 16-year-old Lauren also known as Laurie, Lolo and the Human Emoji.
All three of their children are athletes, Jelysa, 27, is a black belt in karate, Lauren an artistic gymnast and Marcus, 20, the only son is a 4×400 varsity track runner, he also studied economics and sports management at Rutgers University.
Laurie Hernandez was 4-years old when she started taking ballet lesson. By the following year, she grew bored and asked mom Wanda if she could switch to gymnastics.
Wanda accepted and well the rest is history.
Laurie was named into the U.S Gymnastic team as she turned 16 on June 9. She became the fourth Latin Gymnast to represented the USA Team.
In the 1984 Olympics, Mexican-American gymnast Tracee Talavera won the silver, then came the Cuban/ American gymnast Annia Hatch, who won silver in the 2004 Olympics on both vault and team and fellow Puerto Rican gymnast Kyla Ross won a gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics.
Lolo’s father Anthony “Tony” Hernandez, is a county clerk. Wanda is a elementary social worker, they lived in Brooklyn, but decided to moved to New Jersey in order to give their children a more quiet life. They settled in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
