Chelsey Desmond’s man was born Ian M. Desmond on September 20, 1985. The Sarasota, Florida native began his pro career with the Washington Nationals in 2009.
Desmond was drafted in 2004, which was the last year the now-defunct Montreal Expos existed. After the 2004 season, the Expos moved to Washington, D.C., and became the Washington Nationals.
He was named to his first MLB All-Star team in 2012. He followed up 2012 with a successful season in 2013, recording 168 hits.
Coming off a great year at shortstop in 2013, the Nationals offered Desmond a seven-year, $107 million extension. At the time, it seemed like Desmond signing that deal would be a mistake, considering his numbers and age and value as a shortstop. However, down years followed in 2014 and 2015 and he was forced to sign a one-year, $8 million deal with the Rangers
Desmond spent 12 years in the organization before becoming a free agent in October 2015.
Recent reports say he will leave the Rangers and is signed to the Rockies.
Desmond was on the board for the Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy, which created a facility with classrooms and a baseball practice facility, among other things. He was integral in getting the academy up and running. He was also nominated for the Roberto Clemente Award in 2011 as a result of his work with at-risk youth in the Washington, D.C. area.
Chelsey Desmond was born Chelsey Edwards in Sarasota. Growing up she was a tomboy. Chelsey player soccer and softball and volleyball. She was an athlete herself.
She earn a scholarship to Lynn University in South Florida but instead chose to stay close to home and enrolled herself in community college and hoped to become a dental hygienist.She worked for some time in a dentist’s office.
The couple goes from a really really long way back. To Chelsey it was never Ian, the baseball player but Ian from ‘fifth grade.’ The couple met while attending Ashton Elementary School in Sarasota.
Chelsey and Ian became official boyfriend and girlfriend in 2005 –after Ian’s first full season of pro ball. They got engaged in 2008 and walked the isle in 2010.
29-year-old Chelsey is the mother of the couple’s three adorable children, including sons, Grayson and Cruz.
While she is a full-time mom, part-time real estate agent, occasional father, all-hours dog walkers and logistical magician; the blonde wag also finds time to keep her social media up to date.
She often shares cute Instagram snaps about her daily life as a mom and wife of a famous athlete. Chelsey also keeps watch for the family’s affectionate pit bull, Bailey.
Talking about being a Baseball wife, the mom of three told the Washington Post, “People think it’s all roses and butterflies.”
