Kaylen was born Kaylen Lenissa Shell in January 2002, in Elizabethton, Tennessee. Kaylen is one of two daughters born to Jason and Sandra Lynn Shell; her sister is Jasy Shell, a volleyball player at Elizabethton High School.
Kaylen Carter graduated from Elizabethton High School in December 2020; she got her Bachelor’s Degree in Health Care Administration and Management from East Tennessee State University, where she was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority and the basketball Team.
Kaylen Carter started dating Evan in September 2013. They graduated together from Elizabethtown and kept their relationship strong even if they headed different ways.
Evan asked Kaylen to marry him at the Grand Canyon, Arizona, on December 11, 2021.
Evan and Kaylen Carter got married on December 17, 2022, at the Hidden Vale Wedding Venue in Elizabethton.
Evan Carter MLB Career
In the 2020 MLB draft, the Texas Rangers picked up Carter in the second round as the 50th overall selection. Despite not being considered a top-200 prospect by MLB.com and not receiving one of Baseball America’s top 500 prospect ratings, Carter received a $1.25 million signing bonus.
In 2021, he played with the Down East Wood Ducks, where he hit .236/.438/.387/.825, along with two home runs, 12 RBIs, and 12 stolen bases in 32 games. Unfortunately, Carter suffered a stress fracture in his lower back in June 2021, forcing him to sit out the remainder of the season.
Carter had a successful 2022 season, splitting his time between the Hickory Crawdads and the Frisco RoughRiders. He hit a combined .295/.397/.489/.885 with 12 home runs, 73 RBIs, and 28 stolen bases. He was named the 2022 Tom Grieve Player of the Year by the Texas Rangers and was also awarded a 2022 minor league Rawlings Gold Glove Award.
During the 2023 off-season, he was ranked as the 26th overall prospect in baseball by Baseball America, the 41st overall prospect by MLB Pipeline, and the 53rd overall prospect by The Athletic’s Keith Law.
Carter was invited to major league spring training in 2023 as a non-roster player and began the season with the Frisco RoughRiders. He missed a few weeks in June due to multiple arm injuries but bounced back nicely, hitting .284/.411/.451/.862 with 12 home runs, 62 RBIs, and 22 stolen bases over 97 games.
On August 29, he was promoted to the Round Rock Express of the Triple-A Pacific Coast League, hitting .353/.436/.382/.818 with 3 RBIs and 3 stolen bases over eight games. On September 8, Texas selected Carter’s contract and promoted him to the major leagues.
Evan made his MLB debut that night against the Oakland Athletics, hitting his first career single off of Paul Blackburn. He hit his first major league home run on September 11 against Chris Bassitt of the Toronto Blue Jays.
