JJ McCarthy and his girlfriend Katya Kuropas have been dating since October 2018. Katya Kuropas born Katarina Kuropas in Homer Glen, Illinois, graduated in 2021 from  Hinsdale Central High School in Illinois.
Katya’s family hails from Ukraine; her father Roman Kuropas graduated in 1989 from Immaculate Conception Ukrainian Catholic Hamtramack, MI, and in 1993, with an International Marketing degree from Robert Morris University.
He is the founder and CEO Of Innova EV. Before that, Roman was the CEO and president at Inverom Digital, same job position at Expert Automotive between 1999 and 2005.
Kattya Kuropas’s mom is Tania Kuropas (nee. Karawan), and has three siblings, sisters, Bella and Z and brother Max Kuropas who played football at Hinsdale Central High, studied commercial real estate at the University of Colorado Boulder, and is nowadays an analyst at Lba Realty.

Jim McCarthy graduated in 1990 from Riverside Brookfield High School and ion 1994 from North Park University. Jim McCarthy has been serving as the President at J.E. McCarthy & Associates since July 1999. His primary focus revolves around managing Printing Logistics for printers and advertising companies. His expertise lies in handling Co-Pal, Co-Mail, and overall logistics management, consolidating these services under a single roof for comprehensive and efficient solutions.

In May 2019, McCarthy committed to Michigan, receiving offers from various schools, including LSU, Ohio State, and Wisconsin. His Michigan debut in September 2021 against Western Michigan showcased his talent with a 69-yard touchdown pass among his four completions for 80 yards.
Throughout the 2021 season, he appeared in 11 games as the backup quarterback, accumulating 516 yards, five touchdowns, and two interceptions.
Heading into the 2022 season, McCarthy vied for the starting quarterback role against Cade McNamara. The quarterback competition continued into the season’s initial weeks, with McCarthy starting against Hawaii in the second week, impressively leading the Wolverines to a 42–0 halftime lead. His stellar performance secured him as the starter against UConn, a role he retained moving forward.
McCarthy’s consistency shone as he led Michigan in various victories, notably against Indiana, where he passed for 304 yards and two touchdowns, and in a standout performance against Ohio State with 263 passing yards and three touchdowns, aiding the team in a significant win. The season culminated in the Fiesta Bowl, where McCarthy recorded a career-high 343 passing yards but suffered a 51–45 loss to TCU in the College Football Playoff Semifinals.
The 2023 season showcased McCarthy’s continued excellence, marked by significant achievements against teams like East Carolina, Nebraska, Purdue, and Ohio State. His performance against Alabama in the Rose Bowl was pivotal, completing 17 of 27 passes for 221 yards and three touchdowns, earning him the title of offensive most valuable player for the game.
