Jamie Delgado
Jamie Delgado is the coach of tennis ace, Andy Murray. 39-year-old Delgado is a former pro player turned coach.
Jamie Delgado was born March 21, 1977. Delgado was brought up in Tenerife and moved to England aged 10. He had a promising junior career that included winning the 1989 under-12 British grass-court championships, he was the first Briton to win the 1991 under-14 Orange Bowl (d. Cavallaro) and he also captured the 1994 Queen’s Club junior tournament.
He was a member of the David Lloyd Slater Squad, set up by financier Jim Slater and former pro David Lloyd. He turned professional in 1995 aged 18. He has qualified as a singles player for Wimbledon on three occasions (1999, 2004-05) and received a further six wild cards in 1997, 2000-03, 2006.
Birmingham-born Delgado has won three ATP Challenger Tour singles titles. In doubles, Delgado has won 16 ATP Challenger Tour team titles. In 2014, at age 37, Delgado played his 23rd consecutive Wimbledon, partnering Gilles Muller, losing in 2R to J. Murray-Peers. He holds the all-time male record for playing in consecutive Wimbledon tournaments.
He continued playing with Gilles Müller until the Rakuten Japan Open on September 2014. After they lost in the first round, Delgado retired to concentrate on coaching Müller.
This February he took on Andy Murray to become his assistant coach. In late May it was reported Jamie Delgado would be open to becoming Andy’s full time coach, all depending on his upcoming progress. Well, Murray just reached Wimbledon 2016 final after a straight sets win over Tomas Berdych.
Delgado has thus far proved an excellent fit for the role. He is a long-standing friend and ally of Murray’s.
According to his social media info, he has two brothers, Johnny Delgado and Paul Delgado –who is heavily involved with performance Tennis. Paul Delgado is a Living Tennis coach. He is also the founder of Delgado Tennis which has managed coaching programmes at multiple local venues over the last 15 years.
Paul also handles the full coaching programmes , including all School’s Tennis projects, Junior Academy, International relationships, Holiday Camps and Adult Coaching.
Jamie currently resides in London. UK. He is also a soccer fan, with a soft spot for Real Madrid.
