Meet American Tennis coach Troy Hahn, he is the boyfriend of 27-year-old Czech player Lucie Safarova. The coach and the player have been dating for a while, they spent plenty of time together in the offseason, even taking a couples’ vacation to Costa Rica with Safarova’s childhood friend Andrea Hlavackova and her boyfriend. According to Safarova, the foursome engaged in some “very serious” games of beach volleyball while they were there.
But before the 32-year-old coach came into her life, she made headlines for something other than tennis. The the 5 ft 10 in Lucie had a very public split from boyfriend and player Tomas Berdych after an eight-year romance, back in 2011.
The Indianapolis native, Hahn boasts an impressive coaching resumé that includes stops at the scholastic and professional ranks.
The son of Gregory Hahn, was born March 9 1982 and started playing tennis at age 7. He served one year as the Assistant Men’s Tennis Coach at Purdue University before joining the USTA staff in 2009. He played professionally from 2004-07, winning six ITF doubles titles and peaking to No. 410 in doubles.
Hahn graduated from Florida in May of 2004 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise and Sports Sciences.
Hahn’s high school achievements at Indianapolis’ North Central High School were equally as impressive. In 1998, Hahn attained a No. 20 singles ranking and was No. 3 in doubles while earning a spot on the U.S. National Team. Hahn also claimed an Indiana state title that same season.
Prior to entering the coaching ranks, Hahn was part of two Southeastern Conference championship teams at the University of Florida. Hahn captained the Gators to a conference title in 2003 and was also a member of its 2001 championship squad. While at Gainesville, Hahn received the 2003 Gator Achievement Award and was twice selected to the Academic All-SEC Honor Roll.
In addition to coaching the pros, Hahn also played on the professional tour following his graduation from Florida. He mostly played at the challenger and future levels and attained a high ranking of 400 in the world. According to his Facebook profile, he currently works for the US Tennis Association.
