Christy Schiano
Meet Christy Schiano; she is the wife of football coach Greg Schiano. Her husband is the current head coach for Rutgers Scarlet Knights, he also coach the Buckeyes at Ohio State. Prior to joining the Buckeyes in 2016, Schiano was the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Schiano started his coaching career at Ramapo High School in 1988; the following year he joined Rutgers and Penn State in 1990. The Chicago Bears hired him as their defensive assistant coach in 1996, and three years later he served as defensive coordinator at the University of Miami. He returned to the Rutgers Scarlet Knights football team in 2010.
Greg Schiano Coaching Career
Greg Schiano’s remarkable coaching journey began in 1988, when he became an assistant coach for the Raiders football team at Ramapo High School. In 1989, he took a step up in his career, serving as a graduate assistant at Rutgers, which was a glimpse of his potential in the world of college football coaching. Schiano’s career trajectory continued to rise in 1990 when he assumed the same role at Penn State, eventually becoming the defensive backfield coach – a position he held from 1991 to 1995.
His impressive performance didn’t go unnoticed, and in 1996, Schiano entered the big leagues, joining the NFL as an assistant coach with the Chicago Bears. His first two seasons saw him as a defensive assistant, honing his skills and knowledge. Recognizing his talent, the Bears promoted him to defensive backfield coach in his third season. This period marked a significant chapter in Schiano’s coaching career, solidifying his reputation as a respected figure in the football world.
From 1999 to 2000, Greg Schiano made waves as the defensive coordinator for the University of Miami Hurricanes. Under his guidance, the team made significant strides. In 1999, they finished the year ranked 12th in the NCAA’s Division I-A for the fewest points allowed per game (17.2). The following year, they climbed even higher to 5th place, allowing only 15.5 points per game.
On December 1, 2000, Schiano took on the challenge of revitalizing the Rutgers University football program as their head coach.

Greg Schiano stepped into the professional coaching arena when he accepted his first NFL head coaching role with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on January 26, 2012. However, his tenure was marked by mixed results. His debut season in 2012 saw the Buccaneers post a mediocre 7-9 record, falling short of making the playoffs.
The following 2013 season saw a further decline as the team’s record slipped to 4-12. The unsuccessful run led to Schiano and the team’s general manager, Mark Dominik, who had chosen him, being relieved of their duties on December 30, 2013.
Greg Schiano Ohio State Buckeyes
After spending two seasons at Berkeley Preparatory School, where he successfully sent two players to Davidson College in North Carolina, Greg Schiano embarked on a new journey in 2016. He was appointed by head coach Urban Meyer as the defensive coordinator and associate head coach for the Ohio State Buckeyes football program. Interestingly, he replaced Chris Ash who had moved on to become the head coach at Rutgers – a role that Schiano himself had once held.
Greg Schiano New England Patriots
In a surprising twist of events in 2019, Greg Schiano left his position at Ohio State and was reportedly set to join the New England Patriots as their defensive coordinator. However, before the Patriots could officially confirm this move, Schiano abruptly stepped down from the role on March 28th. He cited a need to prioritize his “faith and family” as the reason for his unexpected resignation.

Coach Schiano’s wife Christy Schiano was born Christina Mitchell, on October 29, 1968; she is one of four children born to Ella Alexander and the late Tom Mitchell; the former Colts tight end who also played college football at Bucknell. He died from cancer on July 16, 2017; he was 72.
Christy Schiano has two sisters Bartley, Sara and her brother Tom.
Christy met her husband at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania; from where she graduated in 1990, two years after Greg.
Christy Schiano and Greg eventually got married and had four children; Joseph Edward “Joe” born on April 8, 1997; twins John and Matt and daughter Katie.
Joe plays football at Bucknell; the twins also play football at Columbus Academy, Katie, 16, is a ninth grader at Columbus, is one impressive soccer player.
