Meet 37-year-old proudest wife and mother Yordanos S Asgedom! She is the lovely wife of long distance runner Mebrahtom “Meb” Keflezighi.
According to her Facebook profile Yordanos calls sunny San Diego, California her hometown. Just like her 2011 men’s half marathon winner, Yordanos was also born in Eritrea but she emigrated with her family To Tampa as a child.
It was like fireworks for these two, after meeting in the summer of 2004 at an Eritrean soccer tournament and dancing at the event’s party, the couple was instantly attracted to each other and started communicating through e-mail and phone. They tied the knot in 2005 in Tampa, Fla., at Christ the King Catholic Church. Some interesting facts about their wedding day includes their over 350 people attended a lively reception held for the couple at the Hyatt hotel in downtown Tampa which featured traditional Eritrean music and dance and the ceremony was conducted entirely in Tigrinia, the official language of their native Eritrea.
As it turns out Yordanos is also a runner, just not the kind of runner her hubby is. Her hubby might get all the media attention but in their household, it’s all about girl-power since the couple have three little girls. The family splits their time between San Diego and her hubby’s home in Mammoth Lakes where he does his heavy training at high altitude.
On her hubby’s 2010 autobiography, “Run To Overcome” she is quote talking about meeting her husband, she says
The more I talked to Meb, the more I felt like I was talking to someone who was an exact relfection of my values, who I am, and what I stand for. It was friendship at first, but the ore we talked, it was hard to resist falling in love. I was making excuses for not having a relationship because I didn’t want to deal with the long-distance aspect. But you can’t fight that, specially when you hear a voice that is echoing.
In fact, on the book there is a whole chapter titled “Love Story” where her husband describes in detail how they met, how he thought she could be the one and ultimately falling for for her.
Yordanos is always seen accompanying her husband at major events, supporting her man. Most recently the couple can add more awards and honors, her hubby just won the the Boston Marathon!
