Sheilah Rizzo
It is an honor to introduce to Mrs. Sheilah Rizzo; she is the lovely wife of Mike Rizo the president of operations and general manager for the Washington Nationals. Mr. Rizzo has quite an interesting family; he is not related to MLB player Anthony Rizzo whatsoever, however, he is the youngest son of Mr. Phil Rizzo, renowned MLB scout, and former minor league player.
Mike Rizzo was born on December 14, 1960, in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from Holy Cross High School and subsequently played college baseball with the Saint Xavier Cougars while attending at Saint Xavier University.
The Angels selected him in the 22nd round of the 1982 MLB Draft. He was assigned to the Class A league teams the Salem Angels, Redwood Pioneers and the Peoria Suns. The Angels released him before he had a chance to make his Major League debut.
Subsequently, after closing that chapter, Mr. Rizzo became an assistant coach at the University of Illinois; later scout for the Upper Midwest region for the White Sox as well as for the Red Sox.
In 1998, he joined the A-Backs, who then named him their director of operations in 2000; later on June 24, 2006, the Washington Nationals hired him to be their General Manager and Vice-President of Operations, taking over Jim Bowden’s job. He was eventually named President of Baseball Operations in 2013.
So what about Mike Rizzo’s personal life? His wife Sheilah, formerly known as Sheilah Marie Kenny, a native of Peoria, Illinois, became Mrs. Rizzo on October 22, 1988.
Sheilah and Mr. Rizzo have two children; son Michael, 27, and daughter Mary Kathleen; who passed away as an infant.
