Sophie Kruijswijk
Sophie Kruijswijk is the lovely wife of Dutch cyclist, Steven Kruijswijk. Her 28-year-old husband was crushed both physically and morally after losing the chance to become the first ever Dutch winner of the Giro d’Italia.
The racer admitted his hopes of victory were over after crashing at the start of the decent of the Coll dell’Agnello. Sophie’s husband had a nasty cut on his left elbow and on his right leg after hitting a wall of snow and flying over his bike and doing a summersault. Following his brave fight, he finished third overall.
Sophie Kruijswijk husband was taken to Briancon hospital for more detailed checks and x-rays on his injuries. It is believed he could have injured his ribs and back. His career has been halted by a number of injuries.
Steven Kruijswijk was born 7 June 1987 in Nuenen, Netherlands. By age 15, he was a member of the local cycling club ‘Trap met Lust’ and quickly became notorious for his talent. As a junior he was allowed to ride for ‘Westland Wil Vooruit’ and was third at the Dutch Championships. He graduated to the continental team of Van Vliet-EHB Advocaten.
In 2007 he was asked to join the Rabobank team. His career was temporarily halted by injury and surgery left him off the bike for a few months. Following his return, he earned tenth place in the final classification of the Settimana Ciclista Lombarda, his second place in the Thuringen Rundfahrt and his Dutch title at the young talents.
In his first Tour de France, he reached Paris in 33rd and third best young rider. Kruijswijk suffered injuries in 2013. A year later, he was back at the top of his game. He became king of the north by winning the Arctic Race of Norway and after all the hard work, he also managed to place 15th overall in the Tour de France.
He currently belongs to the Team LottoNl-Jumbo team.
Sophie Kruijswijk is the former Sophie Bosch. Accoridng to her Twitter account, Sophie Kruijswijk is a self described sports fan and works in sports marketing.
Sophie Kruijswijk and her hubby became first time parents earlier this year. Sophie Kruijswijk gave birth to an adorable baby boy on February 9th. The couple named their first born, Perre.
It remains to be seen if her husband will race Saturday’s final mountain stage to Sant’Anna di Vinadio.
