We are sadden by the news of the tragic death of great British Sailor Andrew Bart Simpson, when he got trapped underwater for more than 10 minutes by the 72-foot-long high tech catamaran sailboat on Thursday May 9th, 2013 in San Francisco Bay while practicing for the America’s Cup races this summer. Andrew Simpson leaves behind his loving wife Leah Simpson and their young son.
36-year-old Andrew James Simpson affectionately known as Andrew Bart Simpson was born in Surrey on December 17th, 1976. Andrew and his childhood friend Ian Percy who he met when they were a couple of 10 years old boy at the Under-16 regatta, conquered the gold at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing and silver at the 2012 London Olympics. Andrew also won a gold medal at the 2010
World Championships in Brazil and three more silver medals at the 2001 and 2009 European Championships, and last year at the World Championships in Hyères, France.
Andrew got married to his beautiful wife Leah Doney now Leah Simpson, in August, 2009, she gave birth to their gorgeous son Freddie in June, 2010, they were Andrew’s most precious triumphs..
“Although the training is great abroad I miss my little boy and Leah. When you’re younger and footloose it’s a good time but as you get older you get more serious and focus harder.
“We don’t want to be away as much so we work harder. I love coming home.”
